Best free pie chart makers, compared
I make Chartty, a free pie chart maker, so I have a reason to put it on top. I've tried not to. The table below lists what each tool asks of you before you get a pie chart out of it: an account, a watermark, a paid plan for certain formats. Every fact links to the tool's own page. Where I couldn't confirm something, it says "not checked" instead of a guess.
Last checked: 30 September 2026. Free plans change often. If something here is out of date, email anja@curvedtext.io and I'll fix it.
The short version
- Your data is already in a spreadsheet: use Google Sheets or Excel. The chart updates when the numbers change.
- The chart goes into a designed social post or infographic: Canva or Adobe Express, since you'll need their layout tools anyway.
- You publish charts on a news site or blog regularly: Datawrapper. Its embeds are responsive and built with accessibility in mind.
- You want a pie chart image in a minute, without an account: Chartty, RapidTables or Meta-Chart.

Each tool, and when it's the better pick
Google Sheets
Free with a Google account. Charts download as PNG, PDF or SVG from the chart menu. It has both a 3D option and a donut hole setting, but per the Google Charts documentation the two can't be combined. Pick Sheets when the numbers already live in a spreadsheet or will change later: the chart follows the data.
Microsoft Excel
Excel has pie, 3-D pie and doughnut charts. The 3-D pie is in the desktop app; Excel for the web doesn't offer it. Pick Excel for office work where the chart ends up in PowerPoint or Word next to other Excel data.
Canva
Canva's pie charts need a free account. Free downloads are PNG, JPG and PDF; SVG is a Pro feature. Free designs aren't watermarked unless you use premium elements, which carry a watermark until you pay for them. Pick Canva when the pie chart is one part of a bigger design, like an Instagram post or an infographic.
Adobe Express
All Adobe Express plans require an account, no credit card needed for the free one. Free exports include PNG, JPEG and PDF; SVG is Premium. It has pie and donut charts. Pick it if you already work in Adobe tools and want your brand fonts and colors.
Visme
Visme needs an account and supports 3D and donut charts. I couldn't get a clear answer on free downloads: the pricing page lists JPG, PNG and PDF downloads on the free plan, while a support article says downloading isn't available on Basic and published projects carry "Made with VISME". Try an export before you build a whole presentation there. Pick Visme when the chart lives inside an interactive presentation or report.
Datawrapper
Datawrapper is made for newsrooms. The free plan has unlimited charts but requires the "Created with Datawrapper" credit, and exports PNG only; SVG and PDF are on paid plans. Pick it when you publish interactive, responsive charts on a website often.
RapidTables
RapidTables works without an account and has checkboxes for 3D, donut and pulled-out slices. Downloads are PNG and SVG. Pick it if you also need their line, bar or scatter graph tools and calculators.
Meta-Chart
Meta-Chart lets you make charts as a guest; an account is only for saving them. It supports 3D pies and many other chart types, including Venn diagrams. I couldn't confirm its current export formats or watermark policy. Pick it when you need an unusual chart type without signing up.
Chartty
No account and no watermark. Downloads are PNG (transparent background), JPEG and SVG, released under CC0. It has seven flat styles plus 3D, and a donut hole that works with every style, 3D included. You can enter percentages or raw values, and raw values can be shown as percentages. Charts can be embedded on a website.
What it doesn't do, so you don't waste time finding out:
- Only pie and donut charts. No bar, line or other chart types.
- No spreadsheet or CSV import. You type the rows in.
- No text in the middle of a donut, no pulled-out slices, no half donuts.
- Each slice shows either the value or the percentage, not both.
